I surprised Nick with a kayaking tour of Newport Harbor for Father's Day. The weather was perfect and our guide, Mike from China Cove Kayak Adventures, was absolutely the perfect guy to tour around with. He's an ex-pro baseball player who lives in the area and knows all of the locals. Excellent history lesson, good exercise, and time together. It was a great way to spend the morning!
We stopped at Pirate's Cove, which is where portions of Gilligan's Island was filmed. It turns out that Nick has gone rock climbing in this cove before! We then headed over to Balboa Island for another stop, where we walked around, grabbed some coffee, and enjoyed the views of the harbor.
Mike gave us the best kayak, which came in handy when we all decided to have a race. Nick and I won, thanks in part to our speedy kayak but mainly to Nick's mad kayaking skills :)

Maui 2010

We had an amazing family trip to Maui with the Del Vecchios. Our condo was right on the water, the weather was perfect and the pool was great. Here's a picture of our condo- we were in the 2nd floor unit on the right.

We rented an Expedition XL so that we could all ride together.

The view from our balcony. Jack told us before we arrived that one thing we had to do was see a rainbow, so this was very exciting for him!
Sunset in paradise

Of course, we had to build a fort.

Rub a dub dub, 4 cute boys in a tub!

Josh and Luke enjoying their breakfast...

...and enjoying the sunset.

Luke had so much fun with Josh. He would ask for him by name every morning as soon as he woke up, and if Josh would cry, Luke would walk over and pat him on the back. These two are going to be good pals...

...just like their big brothers :)

Who needs toys when you have empty water bottles?

Now that's a BIG fish!

Hey, Look! Someone our size!

We headed to dinner for Adam's birthday. What a view!

Zak decided Adam needed an Iron Man cake, and Jody came through!

Fun in the pool

Maui- Fun at the Beach

We live near the beach. So you would think that packing up our families to head to the beach would be easy. Oh, how wrong you would be. It took no less than 20 minutes just to get the kids lubed up with sunblock, ensure we had drinks and food for all, beach toys, towels, diaper bags, and and a change of clothes all packed up in the car. Once at the beach, it became clear that we might be a year or two away from a truly successful beach outing. Luke wasn't sure what to think, Josh was curious about the taste of sand, Zak quickly decided he wasn't a fan of the water, and Jack saw a red fish through the peephole in his boogie board, so he was the only one interested in staying in the water. It was still fun, but also very messy. After this, we stuck to the pool, which somehow still took 20 minutes to prep for everytime we'd head downstairs!

The boogie boards were pretty cool. Jack loved to look through the peephole. There were a lot of rocks and coral at this beach, which kept him very occupied. He's was pretty excited when he saw the red fish.

Awesome.
